I was just so relieved to be out of the jungle environment and I knew I would appreciate literally any accommodation Rachel had booked for me in Lima, it had to be a massive improvement even if it was only a blanket on the beach.
So when the driver dropped me off at a rather posh hotel, I felt a huge sigh of relief, I knew I was going to have a wonderful night away from the cockroaches, mosquitoes, lumpy mattress and rock hard pillow. I had a feeling it was going to be heaven.
Well there is heaven and there is paradise, Rachel had booked me into a suite on the top floor – a suite OMG, I would have appreciated a comfy mattress and soft pillow. I stared in disbelief as I stood inside number 802, it was more than I could have ever imagined. I ran about playing with the light switches, opening cupboards, running the hot water and smelling my bedsheets – this was the epitome of luxury.
There was a bed that could have easily slept 4 people, a kitchen area, lounge, 40″ smart TV, small table and chairs, separate toilet, separate shower, luxury robes and……and a jaccuzi, an actual huge square jaccuzi surrounded by glass panels inside my room.

I dropped my luggage and did a swallow dive onto the massive bed and lay face down until I had to come up for air. This was all mine for 3 whole nights. Luxury at its peak and I didn’t feel guilty, not one single bit!
My clothes were minging and I didn’t want to spoil the ambience of the room but they would only fester in my rucksack so took them out to air and hopefully remove the dampness.
It was late and I was physically and emotionally tired so a hot shower was the choice of bathing. It was strange but the lowest temperature I could set was actually uncomfortably hot on my skin but I persevered and washed away the grim that had built up over the last 21 days – I had a magnificent scrub. Like my hands in Pucallpa airport toilets, my skin felt so clean and fresh and I washed my hair in soapy lather until it squeaked. This was the first time in 3 weeks that I had actually really washed properly. I took the fluffy white robe from the wardrobe and wrapped it round my clean fresh body, dried my hair with the hairdryer (OMG). My hair frizzes if I don’t use a dryer and now I can look in the mirror and recognise the person looking back. I felt cold after my shower as the temperature in Lima was at least 20oC lower than the rainforest. I didn’t care much for the TV as I was so tired so I climbed into the huge bed, puffed up the already plump pillows, pulled the covers right up to my chin and cooried in. No alarm, no need for nothing, I don’t even remember closing my eyes!
Nite 😴
