28th October – Huacachina to Arequipa

Again I was fortunate to get a double seat to myself, probably because now is considered the low season.

We had only been travelling for 20 mins before arriving at the Pisco winery to be given a full tour of the grape to wine processing technique after which we were taken into a room for tasting and games – all good fun but the real intension was to get us inebriated and loosen our purses and wallets. My purse stayed firmly zipped.

Back on the bus, next stop 5:30pm Nazca lines seen from the top of a tower then dinner at 7pm. I expected more from the Nazca lines but apparently these were not the most impressive and to see these you needed to stay in Nazca and take a small plane fight the next morning.

It didn’t appeal to me so I continued on the bus journey through the night to Arequipa.

Sunset

Even though the buses are well designed with reclining ( to almost horizontal position) seats, I couldn’t actually get comfy enough to fall into a deep sleep. I wedged my earphones into my ears, started my playlist, tucked both my blankets all around my legs and up to my neck to stop the drafts and closed my eyes.
