Anna from the charity picked me up at I and we caught the bus to the centre and I help out cleaning their kennels, feeding them and helping with a some construction work.

They rescue centre was in the middle of moving premises and 120 dogs had to be moved using one car. We popped into the old centre to fill up 3 drums with water as there wasn’t yet a water supply at the new one. Only 40 – 50 dogs had been transferred so far so their work was increased as they had to go between the two centres.
So much to do. All dogs can’t be let out together as there are some quite dominant dogs and tempers fly. Some kennels containing 3 – 4 dogs are cleaned and fed individually then when they are returned to their kennel, a whole section of 5 kennels adding up to 20+ dogs are let out all together – complete entertaining mayhem.

I know I shouldn’t have favourites but I so clearly have. Cindy, a scruffy, dottery old girl

And her kennel pal Princess, an elegant, gentle older lady

They potter around together like two old pensioners. 😍
There are so many wonderful dogs who ask nothing more than just to be loved – it’s breaking my heart.

The charity has no money and the little amount that they do make from sewing dog clothes, making beds and blankets quickly disappears when vet bills need to be paid. At the moment money is tight and they are getting g fed on chicken soup with veg and rice.
The owner knows them all by name and when it’s time to be fed she shouts their individual names and they all quickly disappear into their kennels to wait in anticipation for their breakfast to be delivered – completely priceless.

I helped with a little bit of construction work, leveling the ground in the newly built kennels, removing old bits of wire, corregated roofing and wire fencing from the exercise area.

Left after all dogs had been cleaned, fed and watered.
I stink, getting home on the bus is going to be an ordeal – I stink so bad!!!
It takes almost an hour to get back to the hostel. I get a 15 min taxi down to the bus stop costing 1 sol, a 45min bus ride home where everyone is packed like sardines 80cents …..poor passengers standing next to me 🤮 then a 15 min walk uphill to the hostel

Before peching up the last leg, I popped into the chicken cafe for lunch (nothing on the menu but chicken, chips and salad).
Arriving back at the hostel I ran past the reception and straight to my room, stripped, showered and put on lovely clean fresh clothes.
Feeling positively aromatic, I headed to the kitchen to reach a much needed cup of English Breakfast cup of tea ( the ones I still have from Arequipa) and I bumped into the three resident dogs in the courtyard

I hope they realise how lucky they are to have such loving parents and a warm roof over their heads

Back up to bed to enjoy my tea. It’s only 6 but I’ve bits and bobs to do before bed.
Nite 😘
