7th November’19

What a strange day, didn’t start too well as I was so cold all night and woke up pretty exhausted. I found it hard to get out of bed to get ready for the day but get up I did and performed my usual ritual breakfast preparation before heading for the bus to the rescue centre.

It was another strenuous day especially trying to get the enclosures ready for the new residents. It going to be so much better having them all in the same place. Strange, all the dogs were so hyped up today and it seemed as though there was one vicious fight after another, even from dogs that are usually quite placid. Maybe they could feel the anxiousness off the staff – who knows.

My day started with clipping all the matts off a wee scrawny dog using a pair of scissors – the matts were so tight and I was fiert that I might cut her skin – I really wish I had clippers, it would have been a 15min decent job instead of an hour and me staring at a ridiculous looking mutt at the end of it.

After doing the usual cleaning and feeding I spent the rest of the morning clearing rocks from the paddock area and putting them at the edge of the fence to stop the dogs from tunnelling underneath. The sun was beating down and there was no shade. I had to sit down more than a few times for each time I bent down and stood up I was I light headed and thought I might faint – purely due to the altitude.

The bus journey back to the hostel was same old same old and I kept the same routine of showering as soon as I got back. I took a walk to the right of the hostel, I always turn left in the morning so I thought I’d do a little exploring.

A view across the city from the hostel

Booked a two day Machu Picchu tour for this Saturday and Sunday. I was going to do a one day tour and another one day tour to Rainbow mountain but apparently it’s covered in snow and no stripes can be seen so that would have been completely pointless.

Back in my room at 5pm, under the 3 alpaca blankets & duvet and I can’t stand my hands and nose to be out of the covers. If it’s like this here what’s it going to be like in Patagonia when it’s -8oC at night 😱

Not many photo opportunities today, so busy with work, work and more work. I haven’t eaten all day and the thought of going out there in the cold and dark fills me with complete dread.

Not sure what I’ll do!

Nite 🥶

Well, bugger it, I was cold but I was also so hungry so I got up out of my bed, got dressed and headed to the centre. I went in search of a restaurant I had seen earlier and decided to treat myself. Sitting in the rooftop terrace I ordered spaghetti with chicken in a delicious sauce with a wee Chile kick and a Tanquery gin. OMG, The straight gin was huge, a full tumbler and the spaghetti – the best meal I’ve had since leaving Glasgow – sheer heaven

No tonic yet

I don’t care if it comes up at three o’clock – it was delicious going down!!
